Veteran MVA Official Tapped to Continue Improvements in Customer Service
ANNAPOLIS - Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., today announced the appointment of John T. Kuo as Administrator of the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA). Mr. Kuo has served as a senior manager with the MVA for the past 11 years. Since October 2003 he has held the position of Chief Operating Officer overseeing the daily operations of the agency's 1,700 employees and its 45 branch and testing facilities located throughout the State. Mr. Kuo's appointment comes as former MVA Administrator David H. Hugel leaves the agency after nearly three years to accept a position as Deputy Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. "For more than a decade John Kuo has demonstrated his deep commitment to the MVA's mission of providing excellent customer service, promoting highway safety and protecting the interest of the consumer," said Governor Ehrlich. "John is a professional who knows the MVA, inside and out. His wealth of experience makes him uniquely qualified to take customer service at the MVA to the next level." Throughout his tenure at MVA, Mr. Kuo has been involved in developing and implementing initiatives designed to make the MVA and its services more accessible and customer friendly. These include the new one-stop Drivers License System now in place throughout state and increasing the availability of many MVA transactions via the internet, telephone and self-service kiosks. He also oversaw Governor Ehrlich's program to expand the number of front-line customer service personnel in branch offices to reduce wait times. "With increasing transactions and numerous challenges on the road ahead, we must continue to explore and implement bold new initiatives to meet customer expectations," said Mr. Kuo. "Our customers demand it and we want to deliver." The 46-year old Mr. Kuo is a first generation Asian-American immigrant. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management and Administration. Mr. Kuo is a long time resident of Montgomery County living in Potomac with his wife and two children. ### Return to Press Release Main Page |
