MVA NOW REQUIRING SCHEDULING OF OUT OF COUNTRY DRIVER'S LICENSES AND IDENTIFICATION CARD APPLICANTS

GLEN BURNIE, MD (September 22, 2006) - The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA), in its continued effort to better serve customers, will begin requesting Out of Country Driver License and Identification Card applicants to schedule a day to process their application.

Effective September 29, 2006 each (MVA) branch office will process Out of Country applications Monday through Friday.  Out of Country applications will not be processed on Saturday.  Applicants are encouraged to "schedule a day" with a (MVA) branch office to complete their transaction.

The Out of Country application process is one of the most time consuming and complicated transactions and as a result affects the wait times for all customers.  Scheduling a day is encouraged in order to establish a more convenient approach to this process.  With scheduling, the MVA can distribute Out of Country applications across the hours of a full week, therefore better managing the day to day workload and keeping wait times down.

Out of Country Driver's License applicants should also be aware that a minimum number of two (MVA) branch office visits is required to complete the process.  The first visit is for documentation verification and taking the Law (written) test.  The next visit, which requires an appointment, is for taking the Skills (driver road) test.  Appointments for taking the Skill test can be made by calling the Statewide Skills Test Scheduler at 1-888-212-4709.

For additional information about obtaining an Out of Country Driver's License or Identification Card, log on to www.marylandmva.com, or call the MVA Customer Service Center at 1-800-950-1MVA(1682).
